A passersby attempted to free the 64-year-old and render first aid but he died at the scene.
Reports to police stated that the Holden Commodore Calais the man was driving left the road just after 5pm about 200m east of the Barton Avenue turnoff.

The vehicle, which was towing a sailing boat, jack-knifed and became separated from its trailer. The car ended up on its roof.
When police from the highway patrol unit arrived, they found two men attempting to help the trapped man.
Officers from Chifley Police District attended and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The incident followed another crash on the Mid Western Highway between Bathurst and Cowra on Sunday afternoon.
A man was trapped in a vehicle following the crash at about 3.30pm, and the road was closed in both directions until about 8pm.
