Commemorations of the event begin with a wreath laying ceremony at the Cowra POW Campsite and Italian Memorial on the corner of Sakura Avenue and Evans street at 8.30am.
From 10am an official wreath laying will take place at the resting place of the Australian and Japanese personnel killed during the breakout, the Australian and Japanese War Cemeteries in Doncaster Drive.
The Cowra RSL sub branch will conduct the service.
Morning tea will then be held at the Cowra Japanese Garden between 10.45am and 11.30am. With the exception of the official party, all other attendees at the morning tea are to pay at the time of ordering.
The Cowra Breakout Association will hold its annual general meeting between 1pm and 2:30pm in the public meeting room at Cowra Council.
During the escape in 1944 and ensuing manhunt, four Australian soldiers and 231 Japanese soldiers were killed.
