This year the show will be holding a Demolition Derby in addition to the more traditional show competitions.
The Derby will be the final event of this year’s show and steward Pat Cleary is hoping it will be one of the most popular.
“I thought a Demolition Derby would be a good idea because I ran the Robertson Show’s Demolition Derby,” he said.
"Now looking back about 20 years, they are still running it (the demolition derby) and it’s one of the most popular events of the show.
“It’s all done in reverse they carry a white flag and when it (the flag) comes down they are out of the race, while ever the white flag is up they can be attacked.
“The only time that a competitor can drive forward is if they need to get themselves free from another car and that can only be done in first gear for two car lengths,” he said.
Mr Cleary said the vehicles allowed in the competition were subject to strict rules for the safety of competitors and spectators.
“The cars have to meet the specifications of the rules, a station wagon, ute or sedan based panel van, not red, no four wheel drives or full chassis, the vehicle must be at its original height.
“Seat belts need to be in good working condition, all the lights, chrome work and protruding objects need to be removed.
“All the glass and plastic need to be removed, but you are allowed an interior rear view mirror, drivers need to wear Australian standards helmets, overalls and boots, and must wear their seat belt,” he said.
Mr Cleary said there would be limited spaces available for competitors.
“Those who want to enter should get in quick because there will be a limit of 20 entrants.
“The entry fee is $75 and there is also a deposit of $50 to make sure the entrants remove their cars from the ground.
“Drivers must be over 17 and hold a current driver’s licence which must be shown to our scrutineers and they must be actively participating in the event or they will be disqualified,” he said.
Mr Cleary praised the weekend change of the Show saying it would be more suitable for families to attend.
“We had to do something because while running a mid-week show suited the horse events, it’s very hard to get other competitors through the week,” he said.
