Against the threat of rain, Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club (CMRC) successfully revved its way ahead, hosting the Pauline Langfield Memorial Cup, a race held in commemoration of the late Mrs. Langfield, a founding member of the Club and a pioneering figure in the sport both here and across Australia.
Pauline was instrumental in the establishment and development of the CMRC. The beginning of the event was marked with a tribute to Pauline, with those who knew her best sharing stories of her invaluable work within the Speedway and Dirt Track racing arenas, with awards presented by Mr John Langfield. It was evident that the Club would not have reached its present standing without Pauline’s expert guidance and leadership.
The CMRC was established in 1996 and has successfully hosted many Junior and Senior, State and Australian Championships. When Pauline and her husband John (“Langy”) moved to Cowra, they helped establish the Cowra club. John, a well-known and highly successful Speedway rider and former Australian team Captain, continues his high-level involvement in the sport today. Pauline held Level 4 Accreditation and conducted numerous Australian and State Championships as Race Secretary. She was awarded the prestigious Bob Barr Memorial Award in 2001-2002 for services to sports administration. Pauline was a life member club and was the recipient of several medals from Motorcycling NSW, including the Award of Honour and the Award of Merit in 2009.
Club President Steve Kurtz said the CMRC The Cowra Guardian spoke to Steve Kurtz about the club's future, which has a young following due to its inclusivity and support.
"The Club continues to thrive as we support and develop young riders, helping them progress from juniors to seniors and providing opportunities to pursue competitive careers in any racing discipline they choose." said Kurtz, addding that there were over 130 riders at the Woodstock Park Speedway, a testament to the sport's growing popularity "The Club has helped develop several riders who are now successfully competing internationally in speedway." he said.
Mr Kurtz said the club stands out especially because of its deep roots in the community and support for riders at all levels.
"We support riders all the way up to professional level. We offer state-of-the-art facilities, a family-oriented environment, and a dedicated focus on developing young talent." Kurtz said, "Our experienced members and coaches provide guidance to help new riders progress and compete at their best, whether they’re looking for fun or aiming for a professional career. Additionally, our club hosts events that are welcoming to both participants and spectators, creating an inclusive atmosphere for everyone."
