Snow predicted for Orange as city's water storage continues to rise

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a freezing weekend for the region, with tops of just six degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

The first day of the weekend, though, looks our best chance of snow with a 95 per cent chance of rain predicted on Saturday.

The BoM's meteye says that precipitation could arrive in the form of snow for the region's higher reaches, like Mount Canobolas and the Jenolan Caves region, around lunchtime on Saturday and continue into the afternoon, ensuring that feels-like temperature will be extremely icy this weekend.

That anticipated snowfall will cap a wet end to the working week in Orange, with more rain on the horizon following an already damp winter.

As much as 45mm could fall over the course of the next four days, with rating a chance of rain at 95 per cent for the rest of the week.

That level of rain will ensure we reach the average rainfall mark for July in Orange, with around 70mm the norm for the middle of winter.

Any further rain will continue to add to Orange's rising water storage levels, with the Suma Park catchment nearing capacity. The city's combined water storage level has surpassed 90 per cent.
