Michael John Abbott of Chapman Street was before the court charged with driving a motor vehicle with an illicit drug present in his blood.
According to police facts around 4.25pm on August 29, 2018, police stopped Abbott for a random breath and drug test on Pitt Street.
His breath test returned a negative reading, but his oral fluid test returned a positive detection to cannabis and methylamphetamines.
A secondary oral fluid test at the Cowra Police Station returned a positive reading to THC and meth.
In relation to his drug-taking Abbott told police, "I had some four or five days ago."
Abbott's solicitor Andrew Abraham told the court his client believed enough time had passed for the drugs to exit his body.
"He had taken the drugs five days previously and believed they were no longer in his system," he said.
"Based on previous conversations he had, he thought they lasted three to five days in the blood. He's now undergoing treatment for his drug use."
In sentencing Magistrate Michael O'Brien, said it was disappointing to see Abbott back before the court.
