Law Week is a nationwide initiative to promote community awareness of the law, the legal system and the legal profession. The annual event is held in May each year and helps to promote public understanding of the law and its role in society. People from all walks of life are affected daily by laws from the most basic ones that appear in our day to day lives, through to commercial and criminal laws that help govern and protect society.

Courts, legal agencies, solicitors, barristers, police, public libraries and other public organisations are all encouraged to get involved to help inform the wider community about services and programs that are available. It is also a time that those in the legal profession and their supporters can celebrate the amazing, yet at often times difficult, work that they perform each day.
Law Week for 2019 will be held from Monday, May 13 to Sunday, May 19 and has been developed with events to get communities involved and appeal to people from diverse backgrounds, organisations and perspectives.
Each state hosts it's own events which have intertwining themes that connect the overall week together. The focus this year looks at your rights and the range of assistance available, including "Unlock Your Law", and "Lawyers: protecting your rights", while also looking at current issues in society such as "Avoiding Scams".
Grant Chamberlain, Principal for Garden & Montgomerie Solicitors said that Law Week was an important opportunity for their team to engage with the community and let people know about the services that are available to them. "The law affects each of our daily lives; from knowing our rights under the law, buying or selling property, setting up a business, having a will prepared or simply knowing what to do or where to go for legal assistance," he said. "We aim to be friendly, accessible and a reliable partner for individuals and businesses in our region".
