Declan Douglas Davidson of Eulo Street was before the court charged with common assault after a conversation between himself and his victim became heated.
According to police facts around 6pm on April 12, Davidson attended the victim's residence. After around one hour the conversation about why Davidson did not get along with the victim's partner turned into an argument.
Davidson was asked to leave a number of times but refused. He then struck the victim in the face with an open right hand causing the victim to fall to the ground.
Police arrived and arrested Davidson. While in custody he denied striking his victim but insisted he controlled his victim to the ground using a martial arts move.
Davidson's solicitor Jo Collings told the court her client conceded if he left when first asked the incident wouldn't have happened.
In sentencing Davidson Magistrate Michael O'Brien said even though there was a dispute about what precisely happened it was still a serious offence.
