"The roads and Maritime Services (RMS) issued some sad and disturbing facts about road fatalities in the Western NSW area this week making it the worst start to the year in 10 years," Cr West said.
"Sadly over half of the people who died in our region were within 100km of their home, and alarmingly over 20% of the regions fatalities were people not wearing seatbelts."
Speeding and fatigue are the main causes for fatalities on our roads, so with the colder months upon us and the busy long weekends spent with family and friends approaching, it is a timely reminder for roads users to please drive with safety as the number one priority.
Drivers are also urged to keep up to date with the laws surrounding the usage of mobile phones.
Over the holiday period, drivers could lose up to 10 demerit points and cop a $448 fine if caught with a mobile phone in their hand whilst driving.
