This year two scholarships will be presented to female students who are residents of the Cowra Canowindra district and have just completed the HSC.
We are most grateful to the Cowra Services Club who have donated $2000 towards our second scholarship.
These scholarships are awarded to girls who have not only achieved a pleasing result in the HSC but also have demonstrated their commitment to study and contributed to and participated in to other activities.
The guest speaker for the evening will be Leila Smith, whose Wiradjuri family are from Cowra.
Leila attended Australian National University in Canberra where she gained a Bachelor of Arts, graduating with 1st class Honours in Sociology. This led to a Master of Philosophy in Public Policy, Politics and International Relations from the University of Cambridge.
Leila was the first Indigenous Australian to work as an Associate in a leading management firm when she accepted a position as a consultant with the Nous Group.
Her experience has led her to the Aurora Education Foundation where she has taken the position of deputy CEO.
As one of the new generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates, Leila is working in high level positions, combining her pride in heritage with effective program management.
Her address is titled “Because of Her – We can! Our Journey to the Future”.
The AFGW is encouraging everyone to join in this evening to congratulate our scholars and hear the inspirational Leila Smith speak.
Tickets are available from Sally Delaney, “Lachlan Valley” Mid Western Highway Cowra (0413 274 472) at $50 each.
