Probationary Constable Joseph Fidock attested from Class 335 at the Goulburn Police Academy in December, embarking upon his policing career in Cowra at the end of the year.
“I’ve just moved from Dubbo after eight months at the Goulburn Police Academy,” he said.
“There’s a lot to take in but it’s a good change.”
Constable Fidock was welcomed to Cowra by Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke on Friday morning.
“It’s wonderful to have probationary constable Fidock here today at the very start of his career,” Ms Cooke said.
“We like to have our country people stay in our regional and rural areas.”
Constable Fiddock joins constables Logan Harris, David Hutchinson and Bec McCorkindale, who began working in Cowra in October last year.
“I’m here for a minimum of three years, as well as our other three year probationaries,” he said.
Acting Sergeant Wayne Wiegold said more staff helps with work loads and enables police have a greater presence in towns and villages across the Cowra district.
“It’s good for the police and good for the community. It takes a lot of pressure off the other front line police.”
After months of negotiating with NSW Police last year, Cowra was offered four new probationary constables in order to ease staffing issues.
Sergeant Wiegold said Cowra Police would be open to even more staff should the opportunity present itself.
“At times it can be a little quiet but it only takes one call for us to be stretched to the limits,” he said.
“You can never have too many police, we are happy with the guys we’ve got but if the opportunity presents itself.”
Minister for Police Troy Grant said the Liberals and Nationals Government has also committed to fortify the force into the future with the recent investment of more than $583 million over four years to deliver 1500 extra police.
