That’s the view of member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke who attended the Chamber’s 80th anniversary dinner at the Cowra Bowling Club earlier this month.
Ms Cooke was full of praise for the many small business owners in attendance at the dinner, which featured a comical address from rugby league personality Darryl Broughman.
“There are so many unknowns, so many what-ifs and perhaps the most significant of all, there are no guarantees,” Ms Cooke said of those involved in small business.
She added however that the processes were made easier with the assistance of groups like Cowra’s Business Chamber.
“I congratulate each and every one of you that has made that leap of faith (into business), the bold and the brave who have done so however, will not make the move without preparation, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. In business that is very much a truism,” Ms Cooke said.
“It’s the hard work and the diligence that makes all the difference.
“This is of course where Cowra Business Chamber plays its part.
“Over the course of eight decades business owners have benefited from the collective knowledge and guidance which the (Cowra) business chamber offers.
”Today more than 100 businesses benefit from the chamber’s support which more than ever is important as a critical resource.”
“In the current business climate, we’re in a state of flux, particularly in the retail sector with the juggernaut which is the internet, and in regional NSW the drught is really beginning to make it’s unwanted presence felt.
“These two factors alone are enough to make any business owner feel that there is an unstoppable tide bearing down upon them.
“It doesn’t have to be that way, Cowra Business Chamber is making sure of that.
“In the spirit of any progressive entrepreneur the Chamber has created solutions which are a response to that need.”
Over the past 18 months the Cowra Business Chamber has introduced a number of initiatives to not only increase its membership but to assist those members, moves which Ms Cooke praised.
“The Chamber offers several programs aimed at helping businesses at all levels experience the growth that they need to survive,” Ms Cooke said.
“Programs aimed at start ups or to establish firms offer welcome advice or guidance on either starting or growing a business.
“An up-skilling program allows the development of employees while the Cowra co-working space is a compelling solution for business operators who find themselves away from their own office.
“This is just the type of original and considered assistance which has earned the Chamber numerous plaudits.
“This year alone there has been two awards, in May the team won the Best Chamber in the west, while in August it won Most Innovative Business Chamber at the inaugural Wave awards.
“With recognition like that it is clear that the business community of Cowra is in good hands,” Ms Cooke said.
