Kendal Street experienced congestion from the Mid-Western Highway right through to the bridge.
Motorists were urged to to allow extra travelling time when leaving Bathurst on Monday.
RTA Live Traffic issued the warning on Sunday evening after the Great Race came to an end.
“Heavy traffic is expected this Monday morning as motorists head home from Bathurst,” the alert stated.
“Delays are expected on major roads leaving Bathurst including the Great Western Highway towards Sydney.
“Mitchell Highway to Orange, and Mid-Western Highway to Cowra and the Castlereagh Highway to Mudgee.”
Near record crowds attended Mount Panorama for the Race Week festival, with Supercars with a total of 206,755 people flocking to the Mount from Thursday to Sunday.
