Marc spoke of the history of the Cowra Town Band and his family’s association with the band over most of the 130 years since its inception.
He regaled the crowd with the tale of his grandfather Toby, who was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and his start in the town band at the age of 11 and a half years old in 1942 in the junior band.
Within the next two years he had graduated to the senior band and then went on to be appointed band master.
Toby was a stalwart of the band and many would remember him playing the bugle at the town’s Anzac Day Services.
The McLeish family are still heavily involved with the town band, with Marc’s father Glenn, his uncle Geoff and himself still in the group.
Marc’s son Jackson is now starting his journey with the band as well, so it looks like the family’s legacy will be carried on in the years to come.
Marc also spoke of his grandmother Val, who was an accomplished singer.
The large crowd were then entertained by a quartet of the Cowra Town Band members.
Cowra Rotary President, Bill Murphy presented Marc a $500 cheque as a donation to the band.
