Performances kicked off tonight and will continue during the weekend with a variety of acts based around “The Wild West” theme. Ringmaster Jake Larkin said the cast and crew enjoy performing in rural areas.
“We love to come to the smaller venues because the local people are so great,” he said.
“For us it seems like every time we come, it’s something new, something grand, people have such a great response to the circus coming to town.”
Audiences can expect death-defying stunts along with a colourful cast of characters.
“You can expect the Wheel of Death, which is a nine metre high pendulum, the guys are jumping around doing flips,” Jake said.
“The Russian Swing... it’s a female dominant act which is quite unusual, female aerialists doing somersaults in the air and landing on a small crash mat. We’ve got all the traditional acts, miniature horses, hula hoops, trapeze, we’ve got everything.
“What we always say is that, we’ve got something for everyone, whether you are three years old or 100 years old, there’s always something that’s going to entertain you when you come to the show.”
But how exactly does join the circus these days? Jake says it doesn’t involve running away from home anymore.
“My family is in show business, so the showground with rides and things like that, and we decided to come over about eight years ago to Australia,” he said.
“When I came to Webers, I was doing the lighting here and working in the sound box and one day in the show, our boss was in here and made notice that I had a good voice.
“When we presented the new show, The Wild West, they wanted to have a Ringmaster so they asked me if I would... create the character.”
Just under 30 cast and crew make up Webers Circus, with the majority of them Australian talent.
“About 90 per cent of the performers are born into the industry,” Jake said.
“We like to keep everything in house, Australia has such great talent to offer and we like to showcase Australian talent.”
