The aged care residence raised $251.55 this year, thanks to donations from residents and the staff holding a mufti day and giving loose change to the cause.
Bilyara’s Leisure and Lifestyle Co-ordinator Vanessa Warren said all of the staff and residents were keen to get behind the cause.
“It’s important to us. We want the residents to try and give back to the local community,” she said.
The morning tea also featured a special guest speaker – Shani Nottingham.
“She’s a local artist, wife, mother, teacher and Creative Director of Rare Pear Studios and she is here to give us a presentation of her artwork,” Vanessa said.
Shani gave a presentation on “Towards a Creative Country Life”, where she told her story of coming to Central West NSW and continuing up her practice as an artist.
“My creativity and need to make was always there, I still painted, went into local exhibitions and rural shows sporadically,” she said.
“Like many people, I was trying to be sensible, put others first, and so my creativity was no longer front and centre. But it was always there, pulling at me.”
She also discussed her award-winning blog, Rare Pear Studio and how the internet and social media has transformed her practice.
“A blog is just writing, writing whatever you want, maybe putting images with it, and then posting it or sending it out into the world,” she said.
