The Cowra event will be held from the Cowra Aquatic Centre on December 3.
Events are planned for junior competitors as well as the main event which will be held over the a Grand Prix format which will see athletes complete a 2km run, 200 metre swim, 9km bike ride, 200 metre swim, 9km bike ride and finishing with another 2km run.
Cowra had a poor representation in the first round race at Mudgee and will be hoping for a much better turn out of local athletes at the Cowra race.
The pointscore format gives Cowra a chance of taking out the overall series but only if as many club members as possible make the effort to compete.
Due to insufficient swimming area, Mudgee also adopts the grand prix format every year which sees racers compete in five different circuits as opposed to three.
Instead of the traditional swim-ride-run, the main race at Mudgee was split into five parts, run-swim-ride-swim-run.
A shift in format didn’t appear to affect Bathurst’s Nick North as he bridged a gap between himself and the rest of the pack from the outset.
This would be the case until the very end as North crossed the stripe minutes in front, scoring crucial points for the Bathurst Wallabies.
Mudgee’s Matt Webster and Orange youngster Jack Bilton finished second and third as the pair were neck and neck for large parts of the race.
Orange trio Lauren Kerwick, Jesse Dean and Estelle Dean dominated for the ladies, finishing first, second and third respectively, getting their club on the score-sheet after a previously quiet morning for the defending champion Piranhas.
After the main race, Webster commended his club’s turnout, showing excitement for the rest of the series.
“Mudgee turned out in force today,” Webster said. “We’re looking really good this year and we’re going to take a great lead after this event.
Teams from Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange and Cowra added to the strong showing of Mudgee faithful, making up a strong overall turnout.
The junior races were highlighted by the huge number of Mudgee contestants as a sea of red bounced around the course, giving the Red Devils the majority of the early placings.
Ben and Darren Rohr capped off the short course event with a first and second placing for the Red Devils, while Mudgee’s Mollie Rusten ran third for the girls.
As always, the ladies from Orange were expected to deliver in the main event and deliver they did which brought a big points boost for the Piranhas.
