The evening, which had been in the works since the beginning of the year, was a way for the group to give back to community after their generous donations.
Jenny Friend from the Cowra Breast Cancer Support Group said she was thrilled with the turnout.
“The Cowra Breast Cancer Support Group would like to thank everyone who supported us on the evening,” she said.
“Approximately 75 people attended the evening, with MC Tommy Jeffs keeping the evening flowing.”
The evening featured a number of guest speakers, including local medical professionals, who gave advice on all aspects of the disease, from diagnosis, to treatment and therapy.
“Dr Neil Meulman gave a very informative talk on breast cancer, its history and the advances that have been made,” Jenny said.
“Dr. Louise Baker talked about diagnosis and treatment from her personal experience.
“And Kay Smith from BreastScreen talked the importance of mammograms and how easy it is to organise.”
The night also featured speakers who could talk about a holistic approach to both treating breast cancer and how to reduce your risk of getting the disease.
“We also heard from Carolyn Hosser from the Chemotherapy Unit of Cowra Hospital, Desley Johnson from Cowra Community Health, Beth Schofield from Cowra Hospital’s Physiotherapy department at Cowra Health Services and Gillian from Colleen’s Lingerie and Swimwear,” Jenny said.
Jenny said she hoped the night would help demystify breast cancer.
“We thought wouldn’t be great if we could get health professionals to talk about all the different aspects of early detection of breast cancer to the surgery to what happens with treatment to alternative therapies to get you through that recovery period.”
Attendees on the night also walked away with a few goodies from the night.
“Everyone who attended received a gift bag containing a shower hanger with a “How to Check Your Breasts”, a pen and a shopping list supplied by Cowra Breast Cancer Support Group, with information on BreastScreen and giveaways,”Jenny said.
“Central West Credit Union also announced their raffle.”
