Racing at Bulli for just the second time, Spring Jazz triumphed in the Shane Gloven Happy 40th Stakes (472m) in a slick time of 26.57, about two lengths from Glengarrie Mate in second.
The result continues a good spell for the two-year-old bitch who was coming off the back of two wins at Dubbo, one at Wentworth Park and one at Bulli after she had ran third in the John McDonald Memorial Final at Cowra on June 12.
A product of the successful Cowra-based Braddon kennel, the result also bolsters Spring Jazz’s hugely consistent record throughout 19-starts, having now won on eight occasions and finished in the minor placings six times.
On Saturday night she avoided early traffic to move alongside the race leaders on the first bend, and showed superior speed to the back straight before holding out a late challenge from Glengarrie Mate.
Elsewhere, Vickey Keeping gave Cowra trainer Geoff Curtale a thrill at Richmond on Friday night, chalking up her maiden in the opening race on the program.
She joined Curtale’s kennel about two months ago after eight starts under the care of Dubbo trainer Shayne Stiff, and she’s given Curtale reason to smile having ran fifth at Wentworth Park, fourth, second and now first at Richmond.
Racing in the Ladbrokes Cash Out Heat 1 (618m) on Friday night, Vickey Keeping began strongly before slipping back midfield on the first bend, then rattling home to edge out Final Impulse by less than one length in a time of 36.82s.
Meanwhile, Canowindra chaser Monster Black made it five wins on the trot with victory in Wagga on Friday night, continuing his career-best form for trainer Trevor Bermingham.
The Monster Jack and Black Queen dog of 43 starts is making the most of a remarkable stretch of form, which was sparked with a win at Young back in April.
Since then, he hasn’t finished outside the placings and is now aiming for his six straight victory. He has 14 wins and 14 placings.
