Young gun Matt Thompson (5-3) starred again while Jimmy Brown (2-1) and Michael Prescott (4-3) won their respective match-ups, while captain Dion McAlister and Craig Jeffries lost close battles, to secure the flag for Cowra Golf Club.
Division four had also qualified for the decider but were trumped by Forbes 3-2.
“The whole club is really proud and happy for them,” Cowra professional Nathan Stubbs said.
“Unfortunately division four got beat 3-2 but they fought back and it was really close.”
“This is first pennant we’ve won in 10 years, I found out this morning. So it’s a hugely important thing for us.”
Division three had qualified by defeating powerhouses Wentworth Golf Club 3-2 a week earlier.
Stubbs was confident that both division three and four could seriously challenge in the deciders.
“Both teams had a really good chance,” Stubbs said.
“The Dubbo team had come up here for the semi-final and so had Forbes and seeing the results from the semi-finals I thought we were a good chance.
“Plus our players are in really good form.
“They’ve had a really good season.
“It’s great to see Matt, Jimmy and Mick get the wins on the weekend and get division three over the line.”
Meanwhile, Mudgee defended its division one crown defeating Dubbo 3-2.
Lachie Jones showcased his potential again with a win in his division one match and Matt Button also won but James Morrow was beaten after leading at one point late on.
Mudgee’s Kiwi import Josh Campbell levelled things up with a close win over Craig Schubert and then it all came down to the respective number one players, Ross Horrocks and Mudgee star Mark Hale.
With five to play Horrocks found himself up by one, but Hale was able to claw his way back into it to square the scores up on the 13th hole.
He put himself ahead on the 15th, but Horrocks wasn’t going down without a fight to level out the match right on the 18th.
It was a birdie by Hale, featuring a shot many onlookers described as a “career shot”, which sealed the victory for his club, capping off a hugely impressive undefeated season.
Mudgee also took out the division two crown, against Parkes Golf Club, cementing itself as the leading club in the region.
