Hughes continued his good form on Monday night, top-scoring with 41 runs off 29 balls which included 6 fours and 1 six as his side defeated the Melbourne Renegades by six wickets. The game could have ended up much differently however, if it weren’t for former Test wicketkeeper Peter Nevill knocking off the bails with his hands without the ball when Hughes was only on 9.
Hughes’ tally has brought him into ninth spot for number of runs in BBL06 with 196, 16 ahead of Melbourne Stars big hitter, Kevin Pietersen. The opening batsman is the form player of the Sixers side, consistently notching up big scores across Shield matches all season and has now carried that form over to the Big Bash in 2016/17.
With the big showdown with his former club looming this weekend at the SCG, Hughes could have the chance to be the hero and end the finals chances of the Sydney Thunder.
The Thunder have regained form in recent weeks, claiming scalps over the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes as Shane Watson has returned to form while spinners Chris Green and Fawad Ahmed have enjoyed solid seasons so far. However the 27 year old Cowra boy could be their ultimate enemy this Saturday.
