The classy right-handed batsman, who has been adopted by ACT club Queanbeyan, has been rewarded for his consistent form this season being selected to debut for the ACT Comets against New South Wales in their nation-wide Futures League match beginning today.
He makes his debut after being named in the team of the tournament at the under-19s National Championships earlier this year playing for ACT/NSW Country alongside Cowra's Jacob McNaught. He amassed 210 runs at an average of 35.
Hunt also caught the eye of selectors in only his third match in Canberra's premier division scoring 148 against 2-day and 50-over defending premiers Western Districts UC.
Hunt said he is excited to take the field today playing in the company of some highly talented cricketers, including the possibility of lining up against Ben Rohrer and Trent Copeland.
"It'll be good to play alongside some really good players it's going to be a great experience for me, Im sure I'll get a lot out of it," he said.
"At nationals (under-19s) I was hitting the ball well but since, I've been playing a few poor shots in the 20s and 30s and getting out, but hopefully I can get out there next week [today] and really contribute," Hunt said.
Hunt, who has scored 467 runs in all grades for Queanbeyan this season, has trained alongside the squad since his arrival in the ACT and has had the opportunity to be 12th man during a Comets match against World Cup side Afghanistan.
He said he is familiar with make up of the team and says the company of ACT Comet regular and Queanbeyan team-mate Dean Solway will help come game-day.
"Deans a top bloke and great guy to play with so that will help, I know all the team though," he said.
"We should be pretty strong but NSW will be tough as they always are," Hunt said.
The ACT Comets are yet to win a game this season losing two matches before the new year and one since.
The Comets' match against the NSW second XI begins today at Warwick Farm, Sydney, 10.30am.
