“...A conversation afterwards with Council staff reinforced to me that Cowra, Council and the community will face difficult decisions in regards to what it wants to do for the bypass and main street redevelopment.
There are no easy solutions and not everyone will be happy with whatever decision is eventually made.
At some point, however, we are just going to have to bite the bullet and make a decision.
The one thing I stress to people interested in this debate is arm yourself with knowledge.
One eyebrow raising paragraph I read in one of the many reports on the matter is that 70 per cent of the traffic in Kendal St is local.
Another interesting figure I saw while organising today’s paper is that road freight is expected to almost double in the next two decades.
Food for thought.”
Prophetic words?
It was quite interesting looking back at our coverage of the Kendal Street redevelopment in 2012.
Just a quick five minute flick through our archives produced at least three front pages on the subject in one month, as well as several major inside pieces.
We even had vox pop pieces on what each councillor said during debate, and a breakdown of submissions on the Macquarie Street traffic lights proposal - and the initial recommendation put to council was voted down and changed, interestingly.
You could be forgiven for thinking that by re-printing these words the editor is patting herself on the back and sitting smug about the amount of coverage she gave the issue.
Wrong.
Remember - arm yourself with knowledge everyone.
I’m going to live by my own words and challenge everyone to do the same.
I’m happy to volunteer myself to attend tomorrow’s information session being hosted by Council on December 11 and look forward to seeing everyone in the community interested in this issue doing the same.
No empty chairs, ok.
