With filming already underway on Strangerland, Cabonne Council's Dale Jones said Canowindra is already enjoying the benefits brought to the town.
"We've been really thrilled with the media coverage it has had for Canowindra- the story has just about been used in every state in Australia," he said.
"That sort of exposure is just impossible to buy."
With accommodation across Canowindra heavily booked for crew members, the Royal Hotel's Stephanie Watson said anticipation levels are running high.
"Everyone's certainly very excited about it, it's great for the town. They've booked out a lot of the accommodation," she said.
With filming set to take place primarily in Gaskill Street, Ryall Street and the lane behind the shops, Mr Jones said initial concerns from business owners over potential disruptions have been eased.
"We've been very pleased with the level of consultation that the film production company has had with businesses and individuals and we've been working with them to ensure there's as little disruption to business as possible," he said.
"The feedback we've had from locals and business owners in that area has been extremely positive and they've been working closely with the production crew to sort any issues."
Mr Jones said April is shaping up to be an exciting time for Canowindra, particularly ahead of the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge.
"It's a big month for Canowindra- on the 6th of April we have the 100 Mile lunch, we had the National Trust on the weekend and at the end of the month we have the Balloon Challenge so it's a massive time for Canowindra and that has huge flow on benefits for the whole of Cabonne," he said.
"Last year's balloon championships brought in more than $1,500,000 to Canowindra and the surrounding areas and we're very happy with that- we worked very closely with Cowra Tourism to ensure that Cowra benefited too."
Filming for Strangerland will run over the next fortnight, using the sights of Canowindra to tell the story of two parents looking for their teenage children missing in outback Australia.
While the release date is not yet known, there's sure to be plenty of locals watching closely and pointing at the screen when Canowindra gets its time to shine.
