Captain of Fire and Rescue Cowra, Stephen Overman, and his team have been out in the community over recent months conducting home visits checking smoke detectors, and delivering and installing new ones, to keep the community safe during the festive season.

The smoke detectors are free to retirees and anyone who is finding it challenging to juggle the cost of new detectors at this busy time of year, the added bonus is free installation by local fire fighters.
Captain Overman said, "the smoke detectors are free and will last 10 years, we'll install them and check them annually at no charge."
"We really want to get the message out to put basic fire safety top of mind."
Fire and Rescue Cowra are also looking to recruit new on-call firefighters, and Captain Overman put the call out for new recruits this week.
"Our firefighters are a diverse group of men and women."
