Cowra's Lusi Austin to launch debut children's book

Join local author Lusi Austin when she launches her debut children's book, Jack's Visit To Cowra, at Cowra Library on Thursday, December 2.

Jack's Visit to Cowra is the story of a young city boy who travels to the country to spend the weekend with his grandparents.

While there, Jack hears the compelling story of a Japanese man being found by his Pa in a chicken coop many years ago.

Cowra was chosen as a place to have a camp of captured Japanese soldiers.

Pa recalls the night that the soldiers broke out.

Jack's Visit To Cowra also deals with the post-war restoration and friendship that occurred between Japan and Australia because of the kindness shown by the people of Cowra.

Lusi, a biracial woman with both Fijian and Australian heritage, lives in Cowra with her husband, Brett, and their five children.

Before she started writing, Lusi earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama Performance, having traded in the stage floor boards for homeschooling.

Lusi has had many creative projects on-the-go throughout the years including designing her own range of scrapbooking products, writing and recording her first EP Walking Contradiction and performing throughout the Central West as a solo musician.

Lusi has written articles for Live Central West and Kindling & Sage Magazines.

She presents at the Australian Homeschool Summit and writes about her experiences as a homeschooling mother on her blog. She also journals about her chronic illness struggles with Systemic Lupus.

As a homeschooling Mum, Lusi was keen to teach her children Cowra's local history.

She wanted the information to be accessible to all children and felt the best way to achieve this was through Jack's fictitious story based on the real events of the Cowra Breakout.
