The Burrangong Picnic Race Club committee made the announcement at the end of last week that they had made the call to cancel the 2021 event.
"Unfortunately, as a committee we have made the unanimous decision to cancel our 2021 Picnic Races in light of the current COVID-19 Pandemic and restrictions that are in place," the Club posted on Facebook.
With the cancellation of this years event the Club knows that it is the second year in a row the races have been called off, and though disappointed, they felt cancelling was the only responsible thing they could do.
"We feel we have a responsibility to our small community to ensure we all remain safe and COVID free, and although this will be our second year without our picnic races, it is a decision that each one of us is comfortable with in the current climate," the committee said.
"We will be directing our attention and creative minds to the next fundraising opportunity for our club, and will hope to hold that next year when restrictions ease, so keep your eyes peeled for our next event.
"Until then, we hope our patrons and sponsors stay safe and well and we hope to see you all next year for some BPRC fun!"
