Saturday, December 12, 2020, saw Cowra Services Squash Club finally hold their presentation evening - and it was a triple whammy.
Following the forced cancellation of the 2019 presentation in April, the committee decided to press ahead with an evening later in the year.
The 2019 and 2020 presentations as well as the Christmas function were combined, albeit with limited numbers.
As the club was gearing up for the big night, the late announcement that numbers could increase provided further good news.
Squash Club president, Mitch Beer, got straight into action making last minute phone calls to members who had missed out on bookings and told them the good news - they could now attend.
The Services Club provided a much larger room to accommodate the extra people who could now attend.
The night was supported by a large number of squash players and their families.
Unfortunately, Club Patron and life member, Pete Dawson, was unable to attend this year due to ill health.
We all wish Pete a speedy recovery and look forward to him joining us next year.
The Services Club catered for the event with a delicious two course meal.
The room was decorated in a Christmas spirit and everyone socialised responsibly.
There was a 'photo' booth area, a Christmas tree and all prizes were wrapped.
Speaking of prizes - there were stacks of them - two years' worth.
Some were kindly donated by local businesses and others purchased by the squash club.
In 2019 a new award was introduced, the 'Club Player' award which recognised players who have shown consistent commitment and sportsmanship.
Hugh Bryant and Maryann Uren were the inaugural winners of this award.
A new life member was also recognised, this went to Shaneen Treasure who has been a dedicated member of the club for approximately 16 years, both as a player and a committee member.
The night was kept fun with trivia sessions run by Jack Baker, lucky door prizes, a ham raffle (tightly contested and eventually won by Karl Lanham) and a range of impromptu fun prizes.
Mitch Beer was MC for the night and did an amazing job keeping the night running smoothly, using his usual wit and humour to entertain everyone.
Overall, the night was a huge success due to the team spirit and effort put in by all.
After rising to the challenges of this year, the club successfully adapted to ensure that the games continued, and the year finished with a bang.
Cowra Squash Club is looking forward to the new year where hopefully the competitions will go back to 'normal'.
Competition will return approximately late January, and anyone interested in joining is always welcome to come down and have a go.
