Cowra's Jeremy Ryan powered his way past the entire field to take out the 2020 race ahead of fellow A grade rider Mark Windsor in a sprint for victory.
Ryan was the only rider to complete the course in under an hour (58 minutes and 36 seconds) and claimed the rare fastest time-overall victory double.
He was giving away two minutes to Windsor at the start of the race but in typically windy conditions along the Perthville and Georges Plains course Ryan was a rider in his element.
Ryan was very quick to play down his success in the race, believing he was fortunate that several A grade riders were away with other commitments.
"I was very lucky because the strongest riders in the club weren't there on the day. What's normally happened in races this year is that I've been dropped," he said.
"I think Glen, our handicapper, might have been a bit lenient on me and took a minute off. That might have ended up making the difference.
"Mark's riding really well at the moment, and it's always a pleasure to ride with him and he never leaves anything out there. It always makes for a fun ride."
Dave McKellar was in a position to win the race ahead of the chasing bunch of Ryan, Windsor, Jack Cannon, Daniel Googe, Nic Barrett, Tony Shaw and Steve Bennett.
But after McKellar was caught with less than one kilometre left in the race by Ryan and Windsor, who continued ahead to set up an exciting finish.
McKellar held on for third, holding out Cannon and Googe.
In the women's battle Jette McKellar was first home ahead of Rosemary Hastings and Ebony Robinson.
