Maddy had graduated from Cowra High School in 2011, looking forward to pursuing a career in nursing.
Work experience in Year 10 had given her the opportunity to work in aged care at Bilyara.
Maddy continued working at Bilyara Residential Aged Care Facility through her last two years of high school confirming that she wanted a career caring for vulnerable people.
Maddy's tertiary studies commenced with her days travelling between University of Canberra and Bilyara.
Meanwhile she continued living with her parents in Cowra, who waved her off at 6am on lecture mornings and welcomed her safely home at night.
Maddy preferred our country town to life in Canberra.
Maddy's studies continued with a three-way travel cycle when she completed a Certificate IV in Aged Care and Human Services at Bateman's Bay, lectures at University of Canberra and still some time at Bilyara.
This gave her the ability to transfer to the University of Wollongong, Bateman's Bay Campus to complete the three-year Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
During a time as the only RN on duty at Boorowa Hospital, followed by the completion of a 12-month postgraduate degree in Midwifery, Maddy told the Inner Wheel members that she has delivered around 70 babies.
Maddy spoke to us of the responsibility of being the only RN and midwife on duty now at Young Hospital.
Her daily work life involves patience, strength and initiative.
Cowra Inner Wheel member Jenny Kelly gave the vote of thanks.
We all agreed that Maddy's hometown of Cowra was proud of what she had achieved as a health professional.
A vital member of a healthcare team in a rural community.
The front-line worker of her family. A Treasure.
