Daniel Walker, 45, of Waddell Street was before the Local Court charged with destroy or damage property.
Walker's solicitor Jo Collings said Walker now realised his reaction during the incident was "a very strong reaction to seeing his estranged partner in an embrace".
"Stupid, pointless, senseless, I could run through the list of superlatives as to how bovine and lacking in thought and imagination," Magistrate Michael O'Brien said of Walker's reaction.
"This is something that ought never have occurred and yet occurs against a background where I see he has been punished previously for damaging and destroying properties, offences of violence.
"He needs to start exercising the grey matter rather than having a knee jerk reaction to something that upsets him," Mr O'Brien said.
Addressing Walker, Mr O'Brien told the defendant "You need to have serious cause for reflection as to the way you make decisions".
"It is not uncommon for everyone to experience moments of emotional upset or grief but it doesn't under any circumstances excuse your behaviour," he told Walker.
According to police facts at 1am on January 11 the victim was outside a Canowindra residence speaking to someone when the accused arrived.
He then left before sending text messages to the victim threatening to smash the victim's car.
Police say he was "carrying on" and "going off" when he returned before picking up a large rock and throwing it at the near-side window.
The rock bounced off the window causing no damage.
Walker then threw the rock into the windscreen, smashing it beyond repair.
He then went to a shed at the property where he caused substantial damage to his own vehicle which was in the process of being re-built.
