Operations manager Riverina Slopes, Shawn Eade, said electricity network protection equipment operated automatically after sensing a problem on the electricity network, and switched power off to 1,825 customers in Boorowa and surrounding areas at 12pm.
"Crews responded immediately to ensure the safety of the public and their property," Shawn said.
The unplanned power outage is affecting customers in Boorowa and the surrounding areas including Barwang, Frogmore, Galong, Godfreys Creek, Reids Flat, Rugby, Rye Park, Taylors Flat and Wyangala.
"Due to the Total Fire Ban across the state today, for safety reasons crews must complete a full patrol of the powerlines prior to being able to restore power," Shawn said.
Until the patrol of the full powerline is completed, Essential Energy is unable to provide an estimated time for power restoration.
"Crews expect to complete their patrols by approximately 2.30pm and hope to be able to begin progressively restoring power from then, provided there is no damage found on the electricity network," Shawn said.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience while crews work as quickly as safety allows to restore power."
