The finals-bound Cowra Blues women's team played one of their best games of the year, but the Bathurst Bushrangers were simply too strong, running out 56 point winners in a game where the result didn't reflect the effort or intensity that the Blues bought for all four quarters.

Playing captain coach Sarah Day moved forward with the end result a goal the home team's way at Mulyan, while defender Megan Mackenzie and midfielder Shammy Paiakan were both stand outs for their team, respectively delivering strong efforts one-on-one in the contest for the team.
However, while there were several signs of improvement for the women's team, there are still things that they will need to work on ahead of a forthcoming finals appearance.
The more experienced Bushrangers team were clinical on transition and stoic and defense, using to counter attack to create situation where the weight of numbers running forward exposed the Blues women's defence.
While the gut running from several Blues players was noticed, adjusting to the different strategic moves that seasoned teams like Bushrangers, the Bathurst Giants and Orange Tigers will make in finals will be key to adapting and putting up an competitive effort.
On the flipside though, the Blues themselves showed the benefits of a long season, linking up confidently and being unafraid to back their skills and speed when out in open space, with players like Jacqueline Dresser also showing poise to navigate their way out of congested situations.
The Blues will have another tough challenge this weekend, when they host the Bathurst Giants to round out their home and away season.
The day was also a special one across the AFL Central West competition, with the Blues running an "R U OK" day to help raise awareness of mental health and checking in on your friends across. Other clubs across the competition ran their own variation on the day, while all clubs, regardless of if it was their home game or not, made sure it was supported wherever matches were held.
