Jockey Club president Peter Ford said that while he's grateful for the sponsorship, he also believed that the financial support needs to be seen in the bigger picture of what the Services Club does for the town of Cowra.
"Cowra Jockey Club has a long association with the Cowra Services Club's sponsorship of the Diggers Cup and this is only a drop in the ocean as to what the Club does for the town of Cowra," Ford said.
The president also said that there is an increasing to recognise the work of local businesses and organisations that sponsor the racing events the club puts on, with the name of this weekend's race two, a 950m maiden handicap, a prime example.
"[It's] why we've decided to name the race 'Thanks to our sponsors,'" he explained.
Saturday's meet will consist of six races, with $12,000 of prize money on offer in each race, slightly less than $6000 going to the winner.
Other notable events on the day include the 950m Breakout River Meats Class One Handicap, the 1375m Ronald McDonald House Orange Class Two Handicap, as well as the 1200m "Thanks To Our Volunteers" Maiden Plate.
For those keeping an eye on locally trained horses, there will be several horses in action at the event, including from the likes of Danny and Ken Parsons, Cowra Cup-winning trainer Andrew Molloy and Michael Lynch, with trainers coming from across the Central West, South Coast and Canberra areas also set to feature on the day.
Ford was hopeful that punters would come down and show their support for this weekend's meet, which will take place at the Cowra Showgrounds race track.
"Whilst its only a small meeting it would be good to see people getting behind the day," Ford said.
The meet will also be the last one for a few months, with the gallops not set to resume locally until November 23.
