In the men's game, the Tigers, who as last year's premiers are widely seen as the competition's benchmarks, broke away after a sluggish and inaccurate first half to secure a dominant 96-point win.
Meanwhile in the women's matches, a Blues team that was short of numbers failed to score a goal in the 104 point loss, with Jemma Newman and Emma Clark (Both four goals) cashing in during the victory, which has the side on top of the ladder despite only playing one match this year.
Kicking with the breeze early in the men's match, the Blues kept pace with the Tigers early, staying in touch to be only a goal down at quarter time.
From there, however, the Blues struggled, with an inexperienced team unable to cope with the Tigers' zonal defensive set-up that created multiple scoring opportunities, with only inaccuracy keeping the margin at a manageable 21 points during the long break.
However, the Tigers kicking 11 goals to nil in the second half to put the result beyond doubt.
Andrew Henry, who was named among the Tiger's best, said the team was unhappy with it's first half, particularly its transitional work, given the team's heavy reliance on a wall-like defensive zone.
"That probably showed in that first half... we tidied it up a lot better in the second half."
"We knew what we were doing wrong, and it was nice to be able to identify it... We probably had some fresh legs as well, which also helped."
Meanwhile, Blues vice-captain Scott Leary was optimistic and proud of his team's efforts, especially early, given the amount of new and under-done players that took to the field.
"We just kept the pressure up, kept smothering the ball when we had the chance to, and when we had the chance to we kept it up in our forward line," he said.
"I reckon we all had a fairly good crack at it."
