The money was donated by the South West Slopes sub-Branch of the National Servicemen’s Association, from a larger pool of money left over from the branches closure.
The sub-branch also made equal donations to Young Hospital and Grenfell Multi-Purpose Service.
Vice president of the sub-branch, Ken Guihot said the committee and members were very pleased to be making the donation despite the branch closing.
“We sat down with our members at our final meeting, to decide what we were going to do with the funds, and it was decided we’d donate to the hospitals in the towns where our members were located,” he said.
“We don’t know who or when people will need to use these facilities, so we do appreciate where the money is going.
“They’ve all been very appreciative of the donations and we feel that every little bit donated helps for the care and wellbeing of the patients during their ongoing care,” he said.
Cancer Action Group Vice President, Peggy Chivers, said the group was grateful for all the donations they received.
“On behalf of the Cancer Action Group, thank you all for thinking of us. We appreciate the $1000 because we can buy a lot of goodies for the unit,” she said.
“We are grateful for all the generous donations from the community and thank the sub-Branch for their donation.
“All the donations we receive from groups like them goes towards equipment.”
