More than 60 children from Cowra’s early childhood centres will be calling the school home in 2019 and Principal Jenny Lewis said it was exciting to be welcoming the school’s new students.
“The orientation sessions have been brilliant,” she said.
“The staff have used the time to get to know the kids and the kids have become familiar with the school, the environment and each other.
“We value that time to build up our relationships with our early childhood partners and with the families of the children,” she said.
Ms Lewis said the orientation sessions helped the school put in place support systems for the students transition from early childhood education to Primary School.
“Mrs McFarlane, Mrs White, Ms Causton and the whole kindergarten team have done an amazing job they’ve all been extremely adaptable, flexible in opening their classrooms,” she said.
“Mrs McFarlane attended meetings with all the pre-schools, our school has visited the pre-schools and they’ve visited us. We’ve had information nights, so it’s been over a couple of terms because school readiness is a process.
"The (early childhood centres) have been instrumental in the success of the transition, the communication between us and them has been brilliant. When their kids start school next year we’ve got a picture on how we can best support them as individual learners.
“It’s also really nice to start the home/school partnership during the transition period so that parents feel comfortable in coming to the school, talking to teachers and being part of their children's education,” she said.
