Howell, 39, of Ryall Street, Canowindra was appearing after being charged with common assault and two counts of destroy or damage property.
“You are not the only person to come before this court for offences ruled by alcohol,” magistrate Michael O’Brien told Howell.
“The message is, if you and alcohol don’t mix than you need to do something about it.
“You suffered the loss of close friendships as the result of your behaviour, it is certainly unacceptable.
“Self induced intoxication is not a defence,” Mr O’Brien told him.
Howell was charged after an incident at the home of a friend on Sunday, April 15 this year.
According to police Howell had consumed alcohol with a group of friends before leaving.
He returned a short time later with two bottles of bourbon “acting strangely and agitated”, police said.
Howell then consumed two glasses of bourbon quickly before becoming abusive and speaking aggressively.
He was asked to leave and did so but police say he returned a short time later and damaged a gate to the property, pulling it off its bottom hinge.
Howell then, police said, grabbed the victim by the hair, attempting a head butt before pulling a large chunk of hair from the victim’s head.
He then again left but returned a short time later climbing onto the bonnet of the victim’s car, denting it and scratching it.
When police later spoke to Howell about the incident he said “I cannot remember because I was pretty drunk and I had smoked a few cones at my place”.
In each case Howell was convicted and subjected to a Community Corrections Order for 12 months to be supervised by Orange Community Corrections.
“This is designed to assist you avoid coming back before the court for offences of this kind,” Mr O’Brien told Howell.
