Ms Palmer, 20, of Lachlan Street was appearing before magistrate Michael O’Brien on November 7 charged with failing to appear, stalking and contravening an apprehended violence order.

“You’re a young woman and the harsh realities of life come to you at an early age,” Mr O’Brien said to Palmer during sentencing.

“But that is no excuse for poor behaviour or illegal behaviour, you need to start making far better judgements and far better decisions than you’ve made in the past.

“Self induced drug addiction is not going to afford you a defence for breaking the law.

“When an apprehended violence order applies to you there are serious consequences for breaking that order which includes having your freedom taken away from you. You are now in adult court, if your freedom is taken away from you it will be in an adult prison, not juvenile detention.

“You’re going to be subject to a Community Corrections Order for 12 months with supervision by Community Corrections at Young,” Mr O’Brien told Palmer, as well as ordering her to abstain from illicit drugs for the same period.

“You will not indulge in the use of illicit drugs or you will be in breach of that order,” Mr O’Brien said.

Palmer was charged after a series of incidents beginning on Friday, August 3 which saw her asking for a lift from the victim from Canberra to Cowra.

Later that evening Palmer told the victim she had a drug addiction and she subsequently becoming abusive towards the victim, threatening to kill the victim and threatening to have “friends” come to the victim’s home and hurt her if she told anyone of her drug problem.

She then later became abusive when the victim refused to give her a cigarette.

The victim then reported the matters to Cowra Police.
