“Each week for six weeks, starting November 5, we want people to start putting aside items for hampers,” Salvation Army corps officer Major Cathryn Williamson said.

Major Williamson said people can also make a financial donation towards a hamper if they’d prefer.

Hampers are estimated to cost $40.

Hampers, she said, should be placed in a re-useable bag and dropped to the Salvation Army in Macquarie Street by December 14.

Major Williamson is asking Cowra residents to put together hampers over a six week period setting aside a little each week.

In week one she is looking for products like 1.2kg of Weet-Bix, 1 litre of longlife milk and one jar of spread, or something similar.

Her suggestions for week two are 500 grams of pasta, a jar of pasta sauce and a large can of soup.

In week 3 your hamper could include a can each of spaghetti, baked beans, peas, corn, carrots and beetroot, Major Williamson said, followed in week four by a can of fruit, one Longlife custard and two jellies.

Week five, Major Williamson suggests, could be a small fruit cake and one litre of make up cordial before a can of tuna or salmon, a packet of lollies and a packet of chips in week 6.

“If people are not able to make up complete hampers, then any of the individual items listed can be used by The Salvation Army in Cowra this Christmas,” Major Williamson said.

“We are thankful for the support we receive from so many in the community, particularly at Christmas time.

“Schools, community groups, clubs and individuals all allow us to bring hope where it's needed most,” she said.
