Sentencing Newton, magistrate Michael O’Brien noted the defendant had been before the court in 2015 for driving whilst his licence was suspended and had fines for other matters in 2016.
“I find the offence proven, proceed to a conviction, imposing a monetary penalty of $300 and disqualification for the minimum three months,” Mr O’Brien said.
Newton, 33, of Taragala Street Cowra, was stopped by police carrying out routine patrols at 1.30am on July 27.
Newton was driving on Myall Street at the time.
He was subjected to a random breath and drug test with the breath test returning a negative reading.
The drug test came back with a positive reading for both cannabis and meth.
According to police facts, tendered to the court, Newton, when questioned by police over his drug use, told police “I had cannabis tonight after dinner and took Ice yesterday”.
