Operation from Cowra Airport, the radials will be flying every day this week before departing on Saturday afternoon.
The team, consisting of RAAF, fighter and commercial airline pilots, will be flying over Cowra doing formation flying training, pairs takeoffs, streamer cutting, flour bombing appropriate targets and some tactical missions.
The pilots will be flying a Yakovlev Yak-52, a Soviet primary trainer aircraft primarily designed for training and a Nanchang CJ-6, a Chinese design twin-seat basic trainer which first flew in 1958.
Cowra Rotary and Cowra Inner Wheel are providing breakfast and lunch for the team. The team will be staying in local motels and using Cowra’s facilities so it is set to generate some business in town.
Cowra has been chosen because of its suitable terrain, good airport, great briefing facilities, proximity to catering and good weather.
