Reflecting back on the season, captain-coach Courtney Gambrill said the girls had shown tremendous spirit considering there has not been a women’s side in Cowra for a number of years.
“The season started off slow due to the fact we hadn’t had a women's team in Cowra for four years, so I was starting from scratch basically,” Gambrill said.
“Interest proved to be very little at the start but it gain momentum as we got closer to the start of the season.”
Gambrill said it was disappointing to see not as much interest in a junior side.
“We didn't get as much junior interest as I hoped for but hopefully, with the success of this season, that will attract juniors for next year.”
She said the team was a mixture of a few old faces and plenty of new ones.
“The team now consists of only a couple of girls who had played previously for Cowra,” Gambrill said.
“We have two juniors and a whole bunch of fresh faces.”
She said it was a great achievement to finish minor premiers and hold onto a winning streak at the start of the season.
“We were undefeated until Round 11 and we were against the team that we will be playing in the grand final,” Gambrill said.
“I had originally put the team together as just a social team.”
Gambrill credited Erin Bates and Becky Thornberry as leading the team to success this season.

“Having Erin come back and play was a massive boost to the side, she can control the game by herself,” Gambrill said.
“Becky, she hasn’t played for Cowra before but has slipped into the side very well and has been an absolute firecracker up front.
“She is the second leading goal scorer in the whole Bathurst competition.”
Gambrill also thanked co-coach Adam Gambrill for his expertise and knowledge this season.
