Executive Director of the organisation Tracey Callinan said the funding increase would see an increase of the current rate of 60 cents per resident to 65 cents a resident but pointed out that Cowra received a more than 500 per cent return from Arts OutWest activities last year.
In 2017 Cowra Shire provided $7,516 in funding to Arts OutWest with the group providing $28,500 in promotions for 190 events, $8800 for specific projects, $1500 in workshops and more than $3000 in advice, support and advocacy.
“This conservative estimate of services represents a 538 per cent return on council’s contribution to Arts OutWest,” Ms Tracey Callinan said.
Specific projects staged in and with Cowra in 2017 include the Big Skies Project, Star Picket, Cowra Vices and Cowra’s Wellbeing Choir.
Arts OutWest has also provided training and support for Woodstock musician Blair Gough for the Musicians in Hospitals program and contracted Cowra artist Catherine Bennett to work on a mosaic in Bloomfield Hospital.
Cowra Shire councillor Ruth Fagan thanked library manager Brian Langer for representing Cowra on the Arts OutWest committee.
“He is a dedicated member of this committee and represents us well.
“We look like we get good value, it’s a small investment but a good one,” Cr Fagan said.
