Vincent Eric Young of Newcombe Street was before the court charged with common assault and represented himself.
According to police facts around 7pm on March 20, Young’s victim and witness were in the beer garden of a local hotel when Young and a friend entered the garden.
After awhile Young’s friend left and he approached his victim threatening and harassing them.
The victim attempted to reason with Young, saying he was just trying to enjoy his evening.
Young continued to be aggressive before punching his victim on the left side of the mouth, causing a cut.
The witness then told Young to leave his victim alone, however he continued to be aggressive towards the victim.
Eventually, the hotel’s publican told Young to leave.
Around 8.40pm, police attended to speak to the victim and photograph his injuries.
Police attended Young’s residence the next day, where he made full admissions to police saying, “I’ve been expecting you. He’s a good mate of mine and it shouldn’t have come to that. I done(sic) the wrong thing”.
Young told the court there was no excuse for his actions.
