The Magpies tumbled out on Friday night after going down 10-0, a try to St Pat’s in the closing stages confirmed Cowra’s early exit.
Sutton was pleased with his side’s defence but says there’s work to be done before round one on April 8.
“It was an interesting hit out. We have a fair bit to work on. There’s a lot of rustiness,” Sutton said.
“It was a pretty typical performance for this time of year. We had a lot of dropped ball and silly penalties.”
Forwards Ronald Lawrence and Blake Tidswell were two of Cowra’s best on the night, while big prop Zac Starr showed promise at Carrington Park.
The team will continue its pre-season with a clash against Kiama Knights at Kiama on Saturday afternoon.
Sutton says there’ll be a few position changes due to some player unavailability.
Bathurst Panthers defeated Oberon Tigers 8-4 in the knockout decider.
The club collected $3000 prizemoney.
Cowra’s reserve grade was also ousted in the opening round.
