A total of 19 local groups were presented with cheques ranging from $500–2000 for projects including building, landscaping, computing, sporting equipment, triathlon workshops, and brochures.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Judi Smith, in presenting the cheques at a special morning tea, spoke of the pleasure that Council has in supporting such important work by the range of local groups represented.

“Whether it’s helping with installation of aluminium grandstands for Cowra Motorcycle Club, storage shedding for St Vincent De Paul, development workshops for Cowra Triathlon Club, or a new Dyson vacuum cleaner for Morongla Creek CWA, these are all vital projects that a small boost from Cowra Council can make the difference on,” Cr Smith said.

Other projects supported by Council included help with beautification of the Darbys Falls Cemetery, helping Cowra Salvation Army’s “Kids in the Kitchen” cooking program for local youth, and support for printing 5000 “Cowra Heritage Walk” brochures.

“The response to our Community Grants Program over the last three years has been fantastic, with 107 successful grants worth more than $107,000,” Cr West said.

“This highly-popular twice-yearly grants program is for arts and culture, building and development, natural resource management, small capital equipment, and sport and recreation,” Cr West added.

Groups applying must be not-for-profit and based in Cowra Shire and projects must also directly benefit the local community.

Applicants are eligible to receive up to a total value of $3000 in grant funds per financial year with the next round in February 2018 and are able to apply again provided they have submitted their acquittal report.
