The statewide tournament is an initiative by Tennis NSW, in conjunction with NSW PSSA, offering kids in Years three and four a chance to play competitive tennis.
“The kids often do this sport at school,” regional coordinator Helen Garratt said.
“It’s about getting the schools together and playing a real competition rather than just back and forth.
“There’s progression to a state final.”
Between Mulyan Public School, St Raphael’s Catholic School and Canowindra Public School, about 140 students attended.
Teams are made up four boys and four girls, who play a series of boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles games.
It’s a modified competition with smaller courts, one bounces serves and low compression balls, which promotes rallies.
The top two teams of the day progress to the state final at Sydney’s Olympic Park during November.
This is the tournament’s third edition, and the second year its been hosted in Cowra.
