Saturday's pre-season training session was Jackson's first as Rams coach and he was pleased with what he saw.
Following last month's naming of a 99-man Rams squad and 77-man under-21s squad, both converged on Dubbo's Caltex Park with about 30 players from each in attendance.
The senior squad, with representatives from Group 10, Group 11 and the Castlereagh League, took part in a number of drills under the watchful eye of the coach and team managers before having a full-contact hit-out later in the afternoon.
"There was only about 30 there so numbers were a bit down and some of the boys who I thought would be there weren't but we did a fair bit," Jackson said.
"A bit of fitness and some contact and it's a good concept and the wheels are in motion now."
The attention of both the senior and under 21s squads now turns to February's trial matches against the Penrith Panthers' lower grade sides.
