Former NRL player Wayne Wigham delivered this message to locals last Friday night in a well-received seminar.
Hosted by the Cowra Magpies Rugby League club, the event was delivered by a NRL/CRL partnership with the Black Dog Institute and the Riverina Bluebells.
Wayne Wigham and "Mate helping Mate" champion John Harper came together to talk to Cowra Rugby League about staying mentally well and keeping an eye on your team mate as well. The NRL runs a "State of the Mind" program which encourages players to know the signs of depression and to deal with them before it it's late.
Wayne encouraged anyone suffering from depression to seek help and to help friends when they need it.
"Always reach out to your friends and check that they are okay - it's actually your business," he said.
"It's normal, whether your're a footy star or a farmer, mental health problems are more common than you think."
Several community members joined the senior football team on the evening, with approximately seventy people in attendance.
